A commissioned piece for a friend of mine who loves ballet and art. I wanted to create a modern take on a classic Degas painting. The very gestural, raw strokes that I often use in larger scale pieces are also a nod to dance. The techniques and composition are also inspired by Mark Rothko who I had been studying when I created this piece. There are also personal easter eggs sprinkled into this piece to make it even more personal.
